The European Commission (E.C.) is planning measures that will make it easier for companies in the European Union to comply with its regulations. The commission is exploring how to simplify and streamline its laws, while also looking to provide details of the costs and benefits of new rules. A draft document says: “We must free people and businesses from unnecessary burdens and overly complex rules to unleash more opportunities, innovation and growth, for a more prosperous and resilient E.U.,” adding that officials want to “rally all efforts to deliver a faster, simpler and more effective Union, where rules are clearer and easier to understand, implementation is swifter and more efficient, and shared responsibility drives better results.” The E.C. wants policymakers to work more closely with member states to improve implementation of its rules.
